About Ricky & Tajana

Ricky and Tajana are instructors and leaders of the dance school and showgroup ‘Salsoteca’ in Zagreb, Croatia. They have been dancing together for 7 years, at first being just dancing partners, but the passion for salsa brought them together as a couple. Ricky and Tajana are passionate dancers and instructors of NY Salsa Style On 2, spicing up their dancing style with elements of jazz dance, paying a lot of attention to musicality and improvizing to music. They teaching motto is: “dancing is the interpretation of music”!

Tajana was born in Zagreb and has been dancing since she was a little girl. She has a very strong dancing background in jazz & show dance. She started dancing salsa in 2004 and since then performed with the Salsoteca Show Group, accompanying the famous Venezuelan singer Ricardo Luque. She also performed on workshops and festivals.

Ricky was born in Austria, where he finished studying classical music. He started dancing salsa 7 years ago, when he came in touch with Latin rhythms and fell in love with salsa, bachata and merengue. As a DJ, he became one of the main trendsetters for salsa music in Croatia.

Relentless and consistent, they never succumbed to the pressure of the pedal striving to improve every day of their salsa loving lives. And most probably they never will release that pressure.

Ricky & Tajana don’t just “dance” salsa – they live that dance. Their commitment and dedication transcend boundaries of good taste by far, for as anyone who met them once knows - they start every day with salsa in their minds and finish that day with salsa in their hearts… I also seriously suspect they dream salsa dreams too.

Furthermore, they are the true ambassadors of that great dance and if there is a salsa lifestyle – they are the real deal. Honest and genuine, open and forthcoming, they preach their religion in a manner of true prophets - with their hearts and souls 100% devoted to the every psalm they pronounce or demonstrate. That’s why you have to believe them. And that’s why you have to love them.

Social dancing

When it comes to social dancing, they are equally infatuated, contagious and inspiring. True hard core salseros as they are – they will never give way to injuries, fatigue or accidents – ascending beyond the comprehension of what normal dancers consider “dancing the night away”. Even the worst DJ-s, lousy floors or violent bozos didn’t scare them off the dance floors.

Having been what they are, they enjoy respect, appreciation and admiration from every student that enters their studio, even for the first time. What that student will appreciate even more few months later – is their teaching methodology, relentless commitment and loads of preparation they generously invest in every single class they teach – making it amusing, educational, pleasant, lovable and up to date at the same time. And what will impress the aforementioned student even more is the overall atmosphere, mood and “homey” feel their studio has. Sometimes it looks like a bunch of old friends dropping by for a chat, and not like a dancing class that is to begin. That’s why their dancing school Salsoteca enjoys so many faithful and devoted students that will spend their entire dancing careers at the same place where they made their first salsa steps.
