|
The Dalmatian Village that’s part of the Solaris Beach Resort is actually a restaurant with an autochthonous atmosphere of the old Dalmatia with traditional specialties set to the song of the klapa*. The attribute that can readily be given to every specialty is – homemade! Warm homemade bread from ‘under the peka’ from your very own bakery; homegrown olive oil from the olive grove; homemade persutto and cheese and fish specialties from the grill. Mmmm… |

Unfamiliar terms from the text
*Singing in a KlapaThe klapa music is a form of traditional Croatian a cappella singing. The word klapa translates as “a group of friends” and traces its roots to littoral church singing. Stemming from the south of Croatia (Dalmatia), it mostly comes from coastal and island regions. The singing is polyphonic, and although klapa is a cappella music, on occasion it is accompanied with a gentle guitar and a mandolin. It’s traditionally sung “according to the ear”, which means without a conductor. The main line is sung by the highest voice, and then is joined by the other singers, that harmonize with the leading vocal. Take a peak at the Video gallery section for a great example. |

** Dishes under the pekaDishes under the peka are some of the top gastronomic offers in the Dalmatian cuisine. Food is prepared in a shallow tray, covered with a special bell shaped lid, and baked in the embers of a fireplace with real wood fire. Traditionally, meat, eel or octopus, with the addition of various vegetables, are the dishes prepared under the peka. |
